Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Spellbound

I was on a SWEEPING PROCLAMATION ('How I met your mother' reference, I love HIMYM!) of No More Buying Make up for a Month, then I saw this baby in Laura Mercier Fall 2013 Collection and the only thing I saw worth breaking my sweeping proclamation (after only 7 days) was the Face Illuminator in Spellbound.

I knew right off the bat that if I didn't get my hands on it soon that:
1) I would regret it when it sold out
2) It will for sure be sold out very soon

The next day I immediately went to Nordstrom to purchase it. At this moment, Laura Mercier Fall 2013 Collection is only sold at Nordstrom and Lauramercier.com for $42 bucks (yeah, it's pricey).
This is what the Laura Mercier site describes it as...
A beautiful face illuminating hybrid product with a soft rose gold shimmer perfect for highlighting. The unique formula based on high pearl levels provides buildable long-wearing colour.

The thing that made me buy it was "rose gold." I LOVE rose gold.
When I bought it, I was thinking it was more of a blush type highlighter. However, it is NOT. This is the simplest highlighter you can ever buy. However, that's all it is. It's just a highlighter... it's just an illuminator (And you can't blame them...).
I love it for what it is, not what I thought it was going to be. I definitely have to wear a blush, if I want more color on my cheeks, because the rose gold doesn't stand out too much from my slightly tanner skin at the moment.
It is build-able, but it has a lot of shimmer and iridescence to it. And personally, I can't be that glimmer-y at any time of the year. So to off-set the intense shimmer-y cheeks, I add a lightly colored blush on my cheeks and place the highlighter on top with any sort of brush or fingers (doesn't really matter).

Tip: I know for some people, they put setting powder as the last step of your make up routine, even after contouring, blush, and highlighter. For me, I couldn't really see where I put the product when I placed the setting powder over it. So I suggest, this highlighter be your last step (or second to last step, if you use a finishing spray).

The Verdict: I love it. I don't regret buying it, because I was on the hunt for a good highlighter.

Is it my favorite? No. It's high on the list, but not something I would buy again if it suddenly disappear...however I would be pissed because it was stupidly expensive and I would like to use it as I did splurge on and broke my sweeping proclamation.

Let me know if you want anything else included in my reviews. I wasn't sure what else to say for this product.

Blessed times,
